Bi-Annual Vision Correction Events
We provide free and accessible eye care to underprivileged senior citizens, including medical checkups, diagnosis, the provision of corrective lenses, and surgeries, all at no cost to the patient. The leprosy camp is especially focused on reaching leprosy-affected individuals in rural communities, who often face systemic barriers to basic healthcare.
Statistically speaking, each camp serves close to 600 patients, of whom approximately 150-200 individuals receive cataract surgery. The initiative has been running for many years, with a brief pause in between.
Holistic Support
In addition to direct medical care, we recognize the deep psychological toll that untreated vision loss and social stigma take on our patients— many of whom are elderly, isolated, and have lived for decades with the consequences of vision impairment, leprosy-related deterioration, or poverty.
These limitations have distanced them from friends, family, and the social support they need. Moreover, their own psychological depression prevents them from holding on to hope for a better life or taking steps to access available support systems.
This observation motivated the Abha Foundation to provide a holistic support system that includes year-round check-ins on patients through chapters of local volunteers. The initiative largely operates on an informal structure, driven by the volunteers' goodwill, social commitment, and deep trust in the Abha Foundation’s dedication to the cause over many years.
Fundraising
Each eye camp serves close to 600 patients, of whom approximately 150-200 individuals receive cataract surgery. Funds in the range of Rs. 1.5 to Rs. 2 lakhs are needed for end-to-end operations. Year-round, funds are gathered from well-wishers to sponsor the needs of every patient in the camp. While any amount of contribution is a huge help, distinct donation slabs are available for donors— such as sponsoring one patient’s medicines or supporting the cost of a single lens for a cataract patient.
