The Lens Project, founded by Ilina Mukherjee, is a non-profit organization working towards the upliftment of medical services for the underserved in rural Bengal, partnering with local village councils and hospitals for many years.
We organize vision correction programs in rural Bengal aimed at providing free and accessible eye care to underprivileged senior citizens and ostracized leprosy victims, with medical checkups, diagnosis, corrective lenses, and cataract surgeries, all at no or minimal cost to the patient.
Our work focuses on small, rural communities where people not only lack resources but also awareness. Many are unfamiliar with existing government healthcare schemes or are unable to navigate them due to illiteracy, stigma, or bureaucratic hurdles. We believe the system must go to them – not the other way around.
This initiative has been running for several years, benefiting thousands of patients with support from local systems, the Gram Panchayat, and donations from kind-hearted people.
